ACFL Division 3
We hosted Castledaly in the final round of the League on Tuesday last. Played in ideal conditions this was a must win game for Bun in order to have any hope of retaining their status in Division 3.
Castledaly made the brighter starter and their first score of the match was a two pointer. Luke Kiernan responded for Bun with his trademark battling run before firing over. Castledaly got the next two scores before Aidan Finnan replied with an excellent two pointed free.
Daragh Lyons started to come to the fore then and kicked three points, one of which was a free. The sides went into the break at 0:06 to 0:06 after an even first half.
Bun started the second half brightly and Finian Newman fired over after he was found with an excellent pass from Ken Conroy. Daragh Lyons got his fourth point of the day then when firing over off his left from what looked an unlikely angle after Conroy again won primary possession to set him up.
Castledaly then hit a purple patch and kicked four scores to lead by 3 with ten minutes remaining. Bun then started to wrestle control at midfield and defence again. Brian Maguire fired over on the run to cut the deficit before a free from Lyons tied up the game. With five minutes remaining Bun were awarded a free on the edge of the arc and Lyons dispatched it with great ease to put Bun in front by two points.
Bun defended resolutely for the remaining minutes to see out the game and secure the victory that would keep them safe in the Division on 7 points. Liam Mitchell was assured in goals while Conor, Davey and Matt were simply superb in the full back line.
Enda, John and Shane provided the platform at half back for several attacks and they were alive to the breaking ball. Simon and Aidan enjoyed significant possessions while up front Brian, Finian and Luke were industrious at both ends with all three on the score sheet. Up top, Barry, Daragh and Mark were lively, with Daragh finishing with 7 points to his name.
Ken, when introduced in first half, as stated above won key possessions to set up Daragh for scores. Cian and Jonny also made telling contributions when introduced. Bun will be happy with their recent performances as they have steadily improved game on game. Next up is Championship in July!

ACFL Division 7
We travelled to Loughnavalley on Sunday to take on the home side in Division 7 of the league. This was an excellent opportunity for the younger players to gain experience at adult level as well as for some of the older players returning from injury. Well done lads on a hard fought game that the home side eventually won on a scoreline of 3:10 to 0:14.

Massive well done to all the girls that played at the half time interval between Westmeath vs Down. It was an amazing experience for the girls to share the pitch with the Westmeath Ladies.
No doubt we'll see some of the Clann Gaels girls on the Westmeath team in years to come. Well done everyone and well done to Westmeath on a great performance and beating Down on Sunday.
