Division 3 vs St. Malachys

We travelled to Castletown on Sunday to take on St. Malachys in Round 5 of the League. With up to nine players missing due this was always going to be a tough assignment but the lads on duty put in a fighting display but ultimately fell short, with the hosts claiming the two points on offer.

Bun started the game well and controlled large chunks of possession in the opening 15 minutes. Both teams struggled to get into a rhythm but the hosts got off the mark with a point from a free after ten minutes. Cian Tighe clipped two scores from frees in quick succession.

Tommy Murphy replaced Alan Maguire in goals after Alan suffered an injury. Murphy was straight into action and pulled off a brilliant save when he tipped a powerful shot over the bar that was destined for the top corner. Indeed Murphy would pull off three further brilliant saves in the second half.

In the defence, Eoin McGowan and Conor Newman had excellent performances and turned over several attacks each. Eoin is really developing into a quality defender with every game he has played this year. Dave Newman drove forward from centre back at every opportunity and gave his all for the hour.

Every man put in a big effort and while the scoreline didn’t reflect the effort, Bun will be happy to get game time into players returning from injury and to the younger players on the panel. Oisin Finn started his first game in Division 3 and put in a solid performance while Brian Maguire kicked two fine scores from play in the second half.

John Kiernan and Luke Kiernan both covered huge amounts of ground and were both rewarded with fine individual points from play in the second half also. Next up is Kilbeggan on Tuesday week.

Team: Alan Maguire, Conor Newman, Eoin McGowan, Gavin Lyons, Enda Newman, Dave Newman, Finian Newman, John Kiernan, Gordon Medforth, Luke Kiernan, Brian Maguire, Ken Conroy, Oisin Finn, Cian Tighe & Liam Mitchell. Subs: Tommy Murphy for A. Maguire, Jonny Nolan for Oisin Finn, & Joe Tormey for L. Mitchell.

Footnote: We wish a speedy recovery to Alan Maguire who was forced off with an injury in the first half.
