Junior Championship Round 4
We travelled to Killucan to take on St. Paul’s on Saturday. On a wet day for football in contrast to the fine summer weather we have had, St. Paul’s recorded a crucial two point victory that means we face a relegation play off.
St. Paul’s started the game brightly and led by four points to no score after 10 mins. Darragh Lyons got Bun off the mark with a couple of points from frees and play. Brilliant work by Ronan Scally and Dave Newman in defence led to Matthew Hope kicking a fine point from play as Bun started to get a hold on the game.
Ronan Scally was provider again when a fine team move saw him find Barry O Mara who finished expertly to the net to level the game as half time approached. Just before the short whistle blew Darragh Lyons scored a free to give Bun the lead for the first time.
Bun started the second half brightly and were beginning to control the majority of possession in the opening ten minutes of the half. Aidan Finnan worked a free short before receiving the return and kicking an excellent two pointer to push the lead to three. St Paul’s responded instantly with a point from play.
Darragh Lyons responded with a 13 metre free that was brought in for dissent before St. Paul’s struck for a crucial goal. From their kick out they worked the ball down the field before finishing to the net to lead the game by 1. Bun responded with a Barry O Mara point to level the game before St. Paul’s kicked a two pointer from a free. They added a further point from play before Lyons kicked another from a free to leave two in it as the game entered added time.
Try as they might they just couldn’t get a levelling score and St. Paul’s came away with the vital two points on offer. It now leaves us facing Ballynacaragy in the final round but regardless of the result we will have to play a relegation play off to remain in Junior 1. The next couple of weeks are vital and all support is hugely important for the lads.
Team: Tommy Murphy, Gavin Lyons, Dave Newman, Ronan Scally, Matthew Hope, John Kiernan, Enda Newman, Aidan Finnan, Simon Moorehead, Luke Kiernan, Caolan Fulham, Ken Conroy, Cian Tighe, Darragh Lyons & Barry O Mara. Subs: Mark Donnelly for C. Tighe, Finian Newman for C. Fulham, Andy Whitney for K. Conroy, Conor Newman, Brian Maguire & Liam Mitchell.
Go Games Blitz
Well done to our U10s on Saturday morning who travelled to Delvin for a blitz. They played two very tough games! The lads worked hard throughout and improved in both games. A really great bunch of lads. Well done to all.
Inny Shamrocks U12
A great game on Friday evening in very slippery conditions against Tubberclair GAA . It was a very fast flowing game of football from both sides which saw end to end football on display and great skills from both teams. Well done lads.
Reeling in the Years
Bunbrosna GAA will host a special trip down memory lane as part of their 125 year celebrations in Tormey's Bar on Saturday, October 24th.
