Writech Intermediate Championship 2019

Bunbrosna 0-7 Multyfarnham 0-6.

TEG Cusack Park was the venue for Friday night’s eagerly awaited local derby. It was a historic occasion in that this was the first time ever that Bunbrosna had played Multyfarnham in an Intermediate Championship fixture .Expectations therefore were naturally high on both sides .The pitch was, as always, in excellent condition despite the deluge of Thursday night and the indifferent weather conditions on Friday. The poor weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of the large cohort of supporters from both sides who made their way to see history unfold on the hallowed turf of GAA headquarters.

Bunbrosna opened the scoring after five minutes with a fine Andrew Whitney pass slotted over by Barry O Mara. In the tenth minute Conor Lyons sustained an injury and was substituted by Joe Tormey Two minutes later Garvan Dolan was at the end of a well placed Ronan Scally pass and he accurately dissected the posts with his first point of the game..This score was followed by a fine point from Mark Donnelly leaving two points between the sides.

With five minutes of the first half remaining Bunbrosna lost its centre field player when Aidan Finnan was forced to retire through injury. Noel Yourell replaced Aidan in the centre. Two minutes later Barry O Mara slotted over his second point Niall Spain was replaced by Fintan Finnan. Multyfarnham scored a point in injury time and the sides went in with just the bare minimum between them Bunbrosna 0-4 Multyfarnham 0-3

Multyfarnham started the second half with two points without reply and went in to the lead for the first time in the eighth minute of the half. Over the next six minutes both sides traded wides with Multyfarnham ahead by one point. Alan Maguire sustained an injury while clearing a ball from his line and was replaced by Tommy Murphy while Fintan Connaughton replaced Kenny Conroy. In the thirteenth minute Ronan Scally fired over an excellent point which levelled the match Daragh Lyons came in for Mark Donnelly in the twentieth minute . Scally was unlucky minutes later when his long range effort curled narrowly wide. .Multyfarnham responded with a point edging them into the lead again.Garvan Dolan again found the target with an excellent point to leave us all square again. As the clock ticked down to 30 all remained equaI. In the first minute of injury Garvan again found target and Bunbrosna edged ahead. Heartstopping stuff indeed!! The final whistle blew to the loud cheers of the Bunbrosna supporters. We had won the day.
