Bunbrosna GAA notes Sept 13th 2020
Football
On Friday night last we made our exit from the Intermediate Championship when we lost out to Milltown in the relegation playoff. We play in the Junior Championship in 2021.While this is naturally a disappointing development for us we must now regroup and resolve to be a force to be reckoned with at the business end of next year’s championship.
Two early goals set Milltown on their road to victory andwere the difference between the sides on the night. A Ronan Scally goal in the last quarter gave us great impetus but the gap proved too much and Milltown who had led by 6 points at the break went on to win by the same margin 2-11 to 1-08 for Bunbrosna.

Rounders
Saturday evening saw our mixed intermediate team play Athenry, an experienced team who have in recent years featured in the finals. Peter Maguire captained on the day and won the toss, Batting first Athenry, it was Eoin Clarke who made the first out with an early catch, with Damien Mc Cormack getting the 2nd and 3rd outs, holding Athenry to 6 runs, as Bunbrosna begun batting, the experience of Athenry showed with 3 quick outs as Damien Quinn and Liam McGrath caught the high balls. Paul Bardon getting the first run for us. Going into the 2nd inning Roisin Foy, Laura Molloy and Kevin McGowan worked well to tag the bases but Athenry had a good lead of 12 runs, we worked hard to make ground, with Kevin Mc Gowan and Roisin Foy adding 2 runs. The 3rd inning saw Damien Mc Cormack and Eoin Clarke make great catches, and Athenry got 5 runs, it was Damien, Kenneth Dunleavy and Eoin Clarke who got 3 runs. The 4th inning saw out field catches from Orla Foy and Eoin Clarke, with pitcher Paul Bardon throwing fast balls for an easy out. It was Damien McCormack who got the only run in this inning, leaving Bunbrosna with a large lead to close, but the fifth inning saw Athenry get 9 runs of which 2 were made by Sarah Goughan making a total of 6 runs for her that evening, with pitcher Paul Bardon catching a high ball and Liam Mc Grathpulling the ball into outfield, the final out was by Eoin Clarke making his 5th catch of the day, a new record for Bunbrosna and speaking to coaches across the country, an impressive achievement. As Bunbrosna batted for the last time, it was Orla Foy, Peter Maguire and Niall Sheridan won put 3 runs on the sheet, with Niall catching Athenry by surprise with good batting and smart running. Well done all. Player of the match: Eoin Clarke. Further challenge matches to be finalised. Sadly it seems that our underage team will not get another challenge game this year, unless it is within the county, if any other club is interested in giving rounders a go, please contact Valerie or Eddie who will gladly arrange a fun practice session for any age group.
