Bunbrosna LFGA

Bunbrosna GAA are delighted to annouce that we have received the approval of the Westmeath LGFA board to establish an LGFA club here in Bunbrosna.

This is an extremely exciting development within the club and will give true equality and recognition to our young girls who have represented the club so well over the years both on and off the field.

We look forward to seeing our young girls develop and rise through the ranks in the weeks, months and years to come. Any girls in the area who want to come along and give it a go are more than welcome.

We hope that our new LGFA club will become a sustainable feeder club for Clann Gaels LGFA a in the future and that we will provide a sustainable route for girls in the area to play football long into the future. Exciting times ahead

Bunbrosna girls make history

Saturday last was a historic day for our club when our U10 girls travelled to St Loman’s and played brilliantly in games against St. Mary's, The Downs and Mullingar Shamrocks.

While ladies played football in Bunbrosna in the late 1960s or early 1970s this was the first girl’s football team to represent the club in a competitive fixture and they did themselves and their families proud. We look forward to our Under 8s playing in their first blitz shortly!

A special well done to Kate, Alannah, Orla, Taylor, Sarah, Anna, Aoife, Aifric, Patrycja and Grace for a wonderful effort all morning!

Thank you to St Lomans LFGA for organising the competition and for inviting our newly formed club to take part.

Junior B Championship

On Tuesday last Bun fielded a strong team against Ballycomoyle in the first round of the Junior B championship.

Playing against a very strong wind, at the first water break we were ahead by 1-1 to 0-02 the goal having come from superb fielding by Brian Maguire catching the ball from the kickout and putting it straight into the back of the net.

The wind proved problematic and both sides missed the target on a number of occasions. Darragh Lyons however found form and was responsible for 1-3 of Bunbrosna’s 2-3 at the half time mark.

By the second water break Darragh had extended Bun’s score to 3-4 and in the final quarter Caolan Fulham had notched up another point. Ballycomoyle scored 2 points in this last quarter.

This was an important result and an excellent performance from Bunbrosna and it saw a number of old faces return to the field of play and we also welcomed some new players who were making their debut for Bun.

Team

Tommy Murphy, Paddy Fitzgerald, Conor Lyons, Ger Brennan, Gavin Lyons, Simon Moorhead, Noel Yourell, Brian Maguire (1-0), Caolan Fulham,(0-1) Kenny Conroy, Niall Spain, Chris Cole, Fintan Connaughton, Darragh Lyons (2-4 )( 1-0 penalty 0-1 free,) Paul Connaughton.
