Junior Championship 2021
Our Championship journey continued with a Quarter Final match against Garrycastle played in Milltown on Saturday evening last in dull and overcast conditions.
We had a great start with excellent points from Kenny Conroy and Barry O Mara. This was followed by an excellently taken goal from Kevin Mitchell who was returning to full form following a spell out through injury.
Garrycastle were kept scoreless for the first quarter due to an excellent performance from Bunbrosna backs. First water break came after a fine point from Kenny Conroy, his second of the game.
On resumption of play Barry O Mara slotted over his second point of the day. Peter Tormey who was also returning from injury added to Bun’s total with a fine point of his own leaving Bun 1-5 to Garrycastle’s 0-0 in the clear after twenty minutes.
Garrycastle opened their account with two points from play. Their next score was from a free where Alan Maguire was injured in the tackle with the incoming Garrycastle player. Tommy Murphy replaced Alan in the goals. Garrycastle added three more points in injury time to leave the score at the break Bunbrosna 1-5 to Garrycastle’s 0-6.
In the second half the wind which had favoured Bunbrosna in the first 30 minutes was replaced by a heavy drizzle which made playing conditions difficult. A move started by Barry O Mara and involving Peter Tormey saw Daragh Lyons slot over another point for Bun.
This was followed by another Peter Tormey point from a mark.
Daragh Lyons added two more points from frees. A good piece of play from Garrycastle saw them rewarded with a goal on the 45th minute. Noel Yourell replaced Joe Tormey at this point. Garrycastle added two more points to their tally which left the bare minimum between the sides.
A free from a foul on Finian Newman was converted by Peter Tormey restoring a two-point lead for Bunbrosna. Ronan Scally also returning from injury replaced Mark Donnelly and Chris Cole came on for Finian Newman at this point.
The entire Bunbrosna team rallied and worked hard to protect the fragile lead. Garrycastle again reduced the deficit to one in injury time and their last minute free from a distance drifted wide of the posts, leaving Bunbrosna players and supporters breathing a huge sigh of relief and joy as Shane Maher blew the final whistle in this hugely competitive and entertaining game. This was a huge team effort from Bunbrosna, and great credit goes to the players management and backroom team.
Panel for this match was: Alan Maguire, Conor Newman, Joe Tormey, David Newman, Andrew Whitney, Kenny Conroy, Shane Mc Govern, John Kiernan, Aidan Finnan, Peter Tormey, Finian Newman, Mark Donnelly, Barry O Mara, Daragh Lyons, Kevin Mitchell, Tommy Murphy, Noel Yourell Ronan Scally, Chris Cole, Brian Maguire, Fintan Connaughton, Liam Mitchell, Conor Lyons, Padraig Keenan, and Paul Connaughton

Inny Shamrocks Under 15
Well done to Inny Shamrocks U15s who put in a great performance in Sunday’s Shield final but unfortunately just didn’t have quite enough to beat a very strong Tyrellspass team.
When these two teams met in a group game earlier in the season, it was a very one-sided affair resulting in a wide winning margin for Tyrellspass.
Undeterred by the result of that previous game, our lads turned up in determined mood today and put in a wholehearted, brave, and committed effort which resulted in a very entertaining, competitive and high scoring game.
Our lads stuck at their task from start to finish, gave as good as they got and repeatedly clawed their way back into the game when it looked like Tyrellspass might overpower us. The lads battled to the final whistle and truly made Tyrellspass earn their victory.
Congratulations to a very talented and sporting Tyrellspass team which contains several players who will surely represent their county in the future.
Each one of the 21 Inny Shamrocks players who were involved today could hold their heads up high as they left the field and be proud of their efforts, not just today, but over the course of the season.
We’d urge every member of the panel to keep at it and return with renewed vigour for next season.
“A great bunch of lads!!” Well done to all involved!
Congratulations
Everybody at Bunbrosna would like to send congratulations and very best wishes to Avril Whitney and Chris Cole who announced their engagement recently. We wish the happy couple every health and happiness in the future.
Congratulations
