All County Football League Division 3

On St. Patrick’s Day we made the short journey to Springfield to take on Mullingar Shamrocks in the third round of the league. On what was a fine day for football, Bun put in a strong performance throughout to record a 3:10 to 0:11 win and claim the two valuable points on offer.

Facing a strong wind in the first half, Bun were first off the mark with an excellent point from Matthew Hope after some great defensive play from our full back line. Shamrocks replied with a couple of points before an attempted point from Darragh Lyons hit the crossbar but the veteran and age-less Brian Maguire was on hand to palm the rebound to the net.

Both teams then traded a couple of points each with Ronan Scally accounting for Bun’s scores to leave the sides level at half time on a scoreline of 1:03 to 0:06. The defensive effort and general control of the ball by Bun in the first half was excellent and to be level at half time, given the strong wind, was going to prove crucial in the second half.

Bun got to work early in the second half and points from Aidan Finnan, Barry O Mara were followed by a goal from Daire McLoughlin. Barry O Mara scored a third goal to give us a commanding lead and while Shamrocks replied with a couple of points, we never looked like surrendering the lead. Midfield partners for the day, Andy Whitney and Darragh Lyons both scored 2 points each to extend the lead towards full time.

Cian Tighe, Patryk Kupferschmidt, Brian O Hara and debutant Luke Rafferty all made valuable contributions from the bench as fresh legs were required to close out the game. This was an impressive performance from the whole panel and is just rewards for the hard training being put in for the last couple of months.

Team: Alan Maguire, Eoin McGowan, John Kiernan, Eoghan Murray, Matthew Hope, Ronan Scally, Luke Kiernan, Andy Whitney, Darragh Lyons, Aidan Finnan, Barry O’ Mara, Mark Donnelly, Ken Conroy, Brian Maguire & Daire McLaughlin. Subs: Cian Tighe, Patryk Kupferschmidt, Brian O Hara, Luke Rafferty & Kevin Mitchell.

All County Football League Division 6

On Sunday, we hosted Milltown in our second game of Division 6. This was a very competitive game throughout with a total of seven goals showcasing the free flowing football that is a regular feature of these Division 6 games. Milltown recorded a 3 point win but Bun could have won this game and will rue the concession of two goals just before half time as well as missing a couple of opportunities themselves.

Luke Kiernan and Patryk Kupferschmidt both bagged themselves two goals each and these scores were a great contrast to each other. Patryk displayed his poacher instincts with two close range finishes while Luke showed his tremendous fitness and skill to run through the heart of the Milltown defense on two occasions.

Kenny Conroy scored a fine point in the first half, Brian O Hara scored a quality point in the second half while Cian Tighe showed his prowess from frees again with two fine efforts. Full time score was Bun 4:06 Milltown 3:12.

Team: Tommy Murphy, Eoin McGowan, Ger Brennan, Eoghan Murray, Matthew Hope, Gavin Lyons, Luke Kiernan, Mark Donnelly, Brian Maguire, Cian Tighe, Daire McLaughlin, Padraig Keenan, Brian O Hara, Kenny Conroy & Patryk Kupferschmidt. Subs: Alan Maguire, Conor Lyons.
