ACFL Division 3

We hosted St. Malachys on Friday last in Division 3 of the league on a dry but cold evening.

Bun started this game well in terms of dominating possession for the opening 5 minutes but couldn’t make this count on the scoreboard. We were having good success on disrupting the opposition kick out strategy and won the early exchanges in this department. A few early chances went begging before St. Malachys put together some fine moves to record 3 quick fire points.

Bun responded with a point from a mark from Barry O Mara. The Bun backs turned over some good possession when St Malachys were on the attack and some patient play led to scoring opportunities that we failed to convert.

St. Malachys tacked on further scores before another Barry O Mara mark and a point from play from Caolan Fulham brought Bun right back into this game. St. Malachys led 0:7 to 0:03 at half time.

The opening 10 minutes of the second half were a cagey affair. Both sides defended well and kept out the opposition forwards. St. Malachys began to exert their dominance from there on in however and scored from fine points from play and frees.

Darragh Lyons scored a point from a free which was to be our only score in the second half. St. Malachys ran out 0:13 to 0:04 winners.

Despite the defeat, there were many pleasing aspects in our performance on Friday evening. The new players continue to get valuable game time and the work on the training pitch is evident. The attitude and application of the whole panel was clear to see so keep up the hard work lads and the results will come.

Team: Alan Maguire, Eoin McGowan, John Kiernan, Eoghan Murray, Matthew Hope, Ronan Scally, Luke Kiernan, Noel Yourell, Darragh Lyons, Barry O Mara, Brian Maguire, Mark Donnelly, Kenny Conroy, Aidan Finnan, Caolan Fulham. Subs: Andy Whitney, Kevin Mitchell, Daire McLaughlin, Gavin Lyons, Tommy Murphy, Brian O Hara, Padraig Keenan, Cian Tighe, Chris Cole, Patryk Kupferschmidt & Luke Rafferty.

ACFL Division 6

Well done to our Division 6 team who recorded a hard fought win over a competition Delvin side on Sunday morning. After two narrow defeats in this Division, Bun thoroughly deserved their win after battling to the very end.

Bun raced into an early lead from the throw-in with Cian Tighe dissecting the posts with a fine effort. Delvin responded well and scored the next two points. Brian O'Hara kicked a great point from distance before Kenny Conroy scored a point from a free. Delvin then put together a fine passage of play to win a penalty. Tommy Murphy, as he did against Milltown, made a great save but Delvin were quickest to the rebound and finished the ball to the net. At Half Time they led 1:02 to 0:03.

Bun started the second half brightly with points from Cian Tighe and two from Mark Donnelly. Delvin responded to these efforts and scored the next 3 points on the trot from frees before Caolan Fulham got a great point from play.

The final ten minutes of this game proved to be the winning of the game with goals from Mark Donnelly (after brilliant work by Chris Cole), Luke Kiernan and Caolan Fulham putting Bun in the driving seat. Delvin again battled back and scored the next two points before Cian Tighe scored a free to wrap up Bun’s scores. Delvin got the last point of the game right on the final whistle to leave the score Bun 3:08 Delvin 1:08.

This was a very good performance from a very young Bun team, with the exception of three or four elder lemons! Eoin McGowan, Gavin Lyons, Eoghan Murray, Matthew Hope, Luke Kiernan, Luke Rafferty, Patryk Kupferschmidt, Daniel Bishop, Cian Tighe, Daire McLaughlin & Brian O Hara are all benefiting from regular game time and their performances over the last number of weeks have been very impressive.

Team: Tommy Murphy, Eoin McGowan, Gavin Lyons, Eoghan Murray, Matthew Hope, Luke Kiernan, Luke Rafferty, Mark Donnelly, Caolan Fulham, Kenny Conroy, Daire McLaughlin, Brian O Hara, Daniel Bishop, Patryk Kupferschmidt, Cian Tighe. Sub Used: Chris Cole.
