Royal Run to Bun

Next Friday and Saturday 22nd - 23rd July, we will again complete the 104km relay Solo-Run & Walk along the Royal Canal from Croke Park in Dublin to Bunbrosna GAA Club grounds.

This year it is to celebrate the completion of phase 1 of our development and to commence phase 2, which will see the installation of a floodlit walking track for all the community to exercise safely and to complement the Astro facilities and the playground of phase 1.

Each group of participants will complete allocated sections of the route, carrying an Official Bunbrosna GAA football along the way. Members of the Adult Team will start the Run & Walk at Croke Park on Friday afternoon leading to the underage completing it on Saturday evening, bringing the ball across the finish line.

We would invite everyone to join us at the pitch or Tormey's after that to celebrate the Club's development efforts over the past two years. Club Officials will organise and allocate sections of the route based on age, supervision needs and accessibility to ensure this is a family-safe, child-friendly, fun event.

Junior Championship Round 1

We travelled to Ballinagore on Friday evening last to take on St. Joseph’s in Round 1 of the Junior Championship. Played in ideal conditions on a fine surface, Bun got off to a great start and had two quick points from play from Noel Yourell and Mark Donnelly before St. Joseph’s replied with two quick points of their own.

Kevin Mitchell was next on the scoresheet for Bun after a fine run from Luke Kiernan. Kenny Conroy followed with a long range point from play after a clever pass from Barry O Mara who had taken possession from Aidan Finnan.

Brian Maguire and Yourell followed up on a St. Joseph’s point with two quick points from play after neat direct play from out the field. St. Joseph’s replied with a crucial score when a long ball found its way to their full forward who finished smartly to the net. Bun responded well to this set back and further points from Maguire, O Mara and Yourell (all from play) saw Bun go into the half time break with a one point lead.

On the resumption of play, St. Joseph’s were first on the scoreboard. Maguire responded again with a fine effort from play before Donnelly added another point from play after good work from Yourell. 

Conroy kicked a fine effort over from play with his right foot before Darragh Lyons made an immediate impact off the bench by winning and converting a free after a long ball in by Yourell.

St. Joseph’s grabbed this game by the scruff of the neck with 10 minutes remaining. They trailed by two points but finished out the game with 1-5 to record a six point victory. 

This was a disappointing start for the lads and while they will be bitterly disappointed with the result, they can take heart from some fine passages of play that they put together. They face Ballycomoyle on Tuesday next where they have the opportunity to get their campaign back up and running.

Championship Fixture

Underage Blitz

There were great displays at the underage County Blitz in Kinnegad at weekend from our U7, U9 and U11 teams.

Great football and great fun was had throughout the whole morning! Thanks to Coralstown Kinnegad GAA,, the County Board, and to our coaches, parents, and the fantastic groups of players!

Underage Rounders

Great fun on Saturday evening in Bun as we rounded off our Rounders Open Evening with some water balloons. For anyone who didn't make it, new faces are always welcome. Next practice Saturday at 6pm.

All Ireland Boxing Champion

Well done to Alfie Jordan, five times All Ireland Boxing Champion, who won the Cadets title in the National Stadium on Saturday. He now goes forward to represent at the European Championships in Italy at the end of September. Well done Allfie! 

Leinster Fleadh

Well done to Aoife Dunleavy, Maeve Molloy, Béibhinn McGabhainn, Áine Newman, Anna Dunleavy, Roise Nic Gabhann and Kallie Moughty who competed with success in the Leinster Fleadh last week. Well done to all.

Congratulations to Emily and Shane Bannon on the birth of their twin boys, Aden and Theo. We are sure your big sister Grace and big brother, Shea, will take great care of you both. We wish you all the very best of luck and happiness for the future.
