Junior Championship

We made the short journey to Ballynacargy on Sunday to take on Multyfarnham in Round 5 of the Junior Championship. Multy were quick off the mark and had the first 3 three points on the board, (two from frees and one from play) before Bun put a fine move together for Brian Maguire to score a fine point on the run.

After another Multy point from a free, Aidan Finnan replied with a free from distance for Bun before Multy broke up the field at pace after turning Bun over to score a point from play. Peter Tormey was next on the scoreboard from play after a clever short free from Barry O Mara found Tormey in space. Noel Yourell was replaced through injury by Eoghan Murray who went on to have a great game. The sides retreated at half time with Multy leading 0:06 to 0:03.

Multy were first off the mark in the second half with another point from a free before a great team move from Bun saw John Kiernan find Maguire in space who hit a rasping shot which grazed the crossbar for a point. Luke Kiernan drove forward from cornerback and was unlucky to see his shot saved. Peter Tormey kicked the resulting free after Kiernan was fouled in the run up to his goal attempt. Shane McGovern then scored a brilliant point from distance to leave one point between the teams with Bun pressing hard.

The key score of the game followed McGovern’s point when Multy put together a passage of play that led to their corner forward finding the bottom corner of Bun’s net to extend the lead to four. They got the next two points to move six clear but to Bun’s credit they fought back. Points from O Mara, Aidan Finnan and O Mara again saw us reduce the lead to three with 6 minutes left. However, Multy pushed on to score the last two points of the game to record a five point win.

Bun now prepare for a quarter final in two weeks time where it looks like Garrycastle will be our opponents.

Many thanks to our hosts Killucan for a great morning. Best of luck to the girls in their last couple of games this year!

All Ireland Rounders

We were honoured to host two All Ireland Semi Finals in the Rounders on Sunday. In the first match in the Intermediate Mixed competition, Kevins faced Erne Eagles at 12:00pm with Kevins emerging victorious in what was a tight tussle that finished 16-13.

In the Junior Ladies Semi Final Carrickmacross faced Kevins at 2:30pm. Once again Kevins came away with the victory to set them up for a double All Ireland Final in the coming weeks.

Well done to all teams and to Valerie for having the pitch and facilities in great condition to host these games.
