ACFL Division 3 vs Garrycastle

We followed up our recent win against St. Malachy’s with another fine win on Sunday morning last when we hosted Garrycastle. This win moves us onto 6 points in the table and the opportunity to push on for a shot at promotion with four games remaining in the league.

Bun got off to a bright start and Barry O Mara registered our first point from play. Ken Conroy followed soon after with a neat point off the left foot after some good play from Brian Maguire and Garvan Dolan.

Garrycastle replied with three on the bounce before Aidan Finnan surged forward and kicked a fine point from play from a tricky angle. Garrycastle responded with a point before the only goal of the game came. Finian Newman found himself in space following a great pass in and when he tried to round the keeper, he was pulled down. Barry O Mara dispatched the penalty with aplomb to put Bun into a lead they would not relinquish.

Brian Maguire then kicked two replica points from distance in between a fisted effort from Noel Yourell to leave the half time score 1:06 to 0:05. There was some excellent defending in the first half with Finnan, Luke Kiernan, Conor Newman and Ken Conroy making notable turnovers throughout the half.

Garrycastle had the first point of the second half with a fine point from play before Conroy got Bun off the mark with a trademark point. Barry O Mara (2)  and Gavin Lyons followed up with excellent points before Ken slotted his third of the day. O Mara was on hand again to score from play following good play from Matthew Hope.

Fintan Finnan marked his introduction with a good point before Garvan Dolan wrapped up the scoring with a point from play, following good work from O Mara and Enda Newman. Holding the opposition to three points in the second half will be every bit as pleasing as the scoring up front. Well done to the lads and management on a great win.

Team: Alan Maguire, Conor Newman, Joe Tormey, Luke Kiernan, Matthew Hope, Aidan Finnan, Gavin Lyons, John Kiernan, Simon Moorehead, Finian Newman, Garvan Dolan, Noel Yourell, Ken Conroy, Brian Maguire & Barry O Mara. Subs: Fintan Finnan for Brian Maguire, Enda Newman for Noel Yourell, Eoghan Murray for Garvan Dolan, Cian Tighe for Kenny Conroy, Ger Brennan for Conor Newman.

Footnote: Before the game, a minutes silence took place to remember the late Kathleen Casey, Grandmother of John Kiernan.

Club Development

There has been significant development work carried out in the last week by Midland Sports Surfaces in our latest improvements around the club. Area prepared for Astro and Ball wall as well as safety barriers along the Walking Track. The whole area is transformed as we are very excited about the work to be completed in the coming weeks and months.

Underage Football

The recent inclement weather forced us to cancel our underage training at the weekend but we will be back in full swing next weekend. Training continues at 1:00pm and new members are most welcome as always.
