ACFL Division 3 v Moate

We hosted Moate in Round 8 of Division 3 of the league on Thursday evening last. After heavy rain all day, the game was played in decent sunshine. Bun made a great start to this game when Ronan Scally responded quickest to Aidan Finnan’s shot off the post when he fired to the net. Finian Newman broke forward from wing forward to point before Moate responded with two quick points from distance.

Bun tagged on more points through Barry O’ Mara and Ken Conroy. John Kiernan suffered a serious injury during the first half and he was a big loss at midfield. His replacement, Darragh Lyons made an immediate impact when he pointed after he won an excellent mark. They went into  see the break 1:09 to 1:06 in front.

The second half was nip and tuck throughout and the game finished 1:12 a piece. The result leaves Bun on seven points with one game remaining when we travel to play The Downs in a fortnight.

Team: Alan Maguire, Gavin Lyons, Joe Tormey, Luke Kierniikkni hi an, Matt Hope, Davey Newman, Finian Newman, John Kiernan, Noel Yourell, Ronan Scally, Garvan Dolan, Fintan Finnan, Ken Conroy, Aidan Finnan & Barry O Mara. Subs: Darragh Lyons, Andy Whitney, Eoghan Murray, Enda Newman, Eoin McGowan & Tommy Murphy.

ACFL Division 6 v Ballycomoyle

We hosted Ballycomoyle in Division 6 of the league on Saturday evening last. Played in sunny conditions this was an entertaining game of football played with 14 a side.

Like many of their recent games, Bun started brightly. Finian Newman was first off the score sheet with a fine move. Our opponents levelled the game shortly after with an equally fine effort from play.

A key feature of this game was some excellent point kicking by Bun. Three Kenny Conroy points and an effort from midfielder, Matt Hope, were of the highest calibre after some fine team play.

Ballycomoyle to their credit gave as good as they got in the opening half and kicked some good scores from play. The open nature of 14 a side football saw them counter attack on the 20 minute mark to score a fine goal.

Bun recovered from this set back to score with fine efforts from play from Gavin Lyons, two from Fintan Finnan and Brian Maguire. Bun were playing well and dominating possession at this point. Ballycomoyle finished the half strongly however with two goals to leave the half time score 3:07 to 0:09.

The second half saw both sides trouble the umpires on fewer occasions than the first half. Ken Conroy responded to an early Ballycomoyle point before our opponents tagged on four points without reply. Cian Tighe responded with two of his own for Bun to leave the final score 3:12 to 0:12.

While a disappointing result, Bun will be happy with getting valuable game time into many of the players who haven’t played much in Division 3 while it offered an opportunity for some players returning from injury to play valuable minutes.

Team: Tommy Murphy, Eoghan Murray, Joe Tormey, Luke Kiernan, Gavin Lyons, Eoin McGowan, Matt Hope, Fintan Finnan, Finian Newman, Brian Maguire, Enda Newman, Ken Conroy, Conor Newman & Cian Tighe.

LGFA U8

Well done to the Bunbrosna U8 team who had a fantastic morning of football in their second Go Games blitz of the season on Saturday. The team made the short trip to our neighbours, Ballynacargy, for a very enjoyable blitz, played in the glorious sunshine.

Well done to each of our girls who played great games against Ballynacargy and Goldsmiths. The U8s had lots of fun most importantly, with a few cartwheels thrown in! A special mention to Muireann O'Reilly, an up and coming star who played brilliantly in her first girls blitz today!

A massive thank you is extended to our excellent hosts, Ballynacargy Gaa, who did a superb job, organising and hosting a hugely enjoyable blitz for all of the girls.
