ACFL Division 3 vs The Downs

Bun travelled to The Downs on Thursday last to complete the league season. The Downs were a far stronger team on the night and came away with a comfortable victory. A couple of goals early in the first half put this game out of reach for Bun and despite fighting until the very end came away empty handed.

Bun did manage to work some good scores in this game with two good goals of their own. Ken Conroy got the first goal after some good work from Darragh Lyons while Dave Newman put a strong run in down the field to exchange passes with Garvan Dolan, Matt Hope and Brian Maguire, before Maguire rounded the keeper to finish to the net in what was an excellent move.

Matthew Hope, Noel Yourell and Darragh Lyons all kicked fine scores in the second half.

Bun now move into their preparations for Championship where they will face Moate in the 1st Round. Best of luck to all the players and management.

Team: Tommy Murphy, Gavin Lyons, Joe Tormey, Luke Kiernan, Matthew Hope, Andy Whitney, Ronan Scally, Noel Yourell, Simon Moorehead, Mark Donnelly, Garvan Dolan, Fintan Finnan, Ken Conroy, Darragh Lyons & Barry O’ Mara. Subs: Finian Newman for Ken Conroy, Dave Newman for Mark Donnelly, Conor Lyons for Darragh Lyons, Eoghan Murray for Gavin Lyons, Cian Tighe for Barry O’ Mara, Brian Maguire for Fintan Finnan.

Inny Shamrocks U15 League Final

Hard luck to the Inny Shamrocks U15s who lost out to a strong St Michaels side on Tuesday 23rd May on a scoreline of 2-7 to 7 points. The team battled hard but ultimately it wasn't to be our night.

Inny Shamrocks U13 League Final

Inny Shamrocks U13s will play the Division 4 League Final on Friday 2nd June vs Multyfarnham in Bunbrosna at 7pm. The players and coaches have worked extremely hard so far this year and have put in some fantastic performances. We hope to see as many supporters as possible out to cheer the lads on!!

This was the culmination of an excellent league campaign and the lads can be very proud of their efforts and performances to date. Thanks to the management for their huge efforts. We look forward to the championship and hope for more great performances there.

Well done and thanks to Ballynacargy on the top class pitch and facilities for the final.

Well done to our U9s and U11s who took part in a blitz in Rochfortbridge on Wednesday 24th May. Many thanks to our hosts Rochfortbridge for hosting a great blitz and Castledaly for attending also. We had great numbers in attendance and everyone got lots of games. Many thanks to all of the players, coaches and parents for travelling!

Rounders

Rounders practice continues Saturdays at 5:45pm for all ages. New members welcome.

Westmeath Senior Hurlers

Hard luck to Shane McGovern and the Westmeath Senior Hurlers on their heartbreaking relegation from the Leinster Senior Championship. Despite their heroic performance last week against Wexford, they were unable to claim victory against Antrim at the weekend and with Wexford narrowly beating Kilkenny, this meant Westmeath lost out on the head to head to see them in the Joe McDonagh Cup next year.

This has been a very good year for Westmeath hurling despite their relegation. They retained their Divison 1 status in the League for next year as well as beating Wexford for the first time since 1940 in the Championship. Their performances have shown they deserve to be playing top flight hurling. Well done to Shane and all involved and we have no doubt they will be better days ahead for this group.

Westmeath Camogie

Congratulations to Holly McCormack, Eva Cawley, Grace Bracken, Grace Downes and Claire Loughrey and the Westmeath U16 team who beat Armagh on Sunday 21st May in Round 2 of their All-Ireland Championship.

Membership

This is a gentle reminder that Membership for 2023 is now overdue. All players need to have their membership paid in order to play. The rates of membership this year can be found on Foireann. There are various options available for members as well as for those who wish to avail of access to our newly refurbished Gym. All membership must be done through Foireann.

In order to register, log on to your Foireann account from last year and follow the membership prompts. If you don’t have a Foireann account just log onto www.foireann.ie and register a new account and select Bunbrosna as your club. Once you have this done you will be able to select the membership option that suits you best.

Speedy Recovery

Best wishes to Sean Rock of Multyfarnham on his recovery from a serious injury suffered during a league game last week.
