Division 3 vs Multy
We made the short journey to Multy to take on the home side in Division 3 of the league on Saturday evening last. On a fine evening for football both teams served up and honest hours endeavour in which their was very little between the teams.
Bun made a quick start to this game and inexplicably hit the crossbar twice in quick succession. A couple of inches lower and a green flag would have been a big score in this game. As it was Barry O Mara had the first point of the game with a fine effort from play. Multy had the next two points to lead by one but this was quickly cancelled out by an excellent Ken Conroy point from a free.

Multy again took the lead but Fintan Finnan replied with a neat point from play in what was now a very entertaining game which saw a sizeable crowd in attendance for the local derby.

Multy then enjoyed a purple patch mid way through the first half and hit three quality scores from play. To their credit, Bun never panicked and Noel Yourell cut the deficit to two when he ventured forward to kick an excellent point from distance. Multy replied instantly before Fintan Finnan took a shot of the half volley to drill over the bar for his second point of the game, a shot that could easily have gone under the crossbar on another day! Another point from Multy from play left the score 0:08 to 0:05 at half time.

A reinvigorated Bun started the second half as they did the first with a strong opening. Aidan Finnan kicked a huge score from distance after some good work out wide by Barry O Mara and Simon Moorehead. Multy replied with a score from play before O Mara kicked a free.

Multy had the next score from play before two points from O Mara left one point in it with 46 minutes gone on the clock. A few costly misses and errors would prove Bun’s undoing. Some great pressure was applied by the team but they just couldn’t make it count on the scoreboard. Multy withheld the pressure and kicked the final two points of the game to lead by three as full time approached.

With their final attack Ken Conroy made a strong run through the centre and beat three defenders before passing to Fintan Finnan whose pass across the box found Moorehead. His shot was deflected onto the crossbar to deny Bun at the death. A brave performance just fell short as the final whistle sounded.

Team: Liam Mitchell, Joe Tormey, Davey Newman, Ronan Scally, Noel Yourell, Finian Newman, Matthew Hope, John Kiernan, Brian Maguire, Enda Newman, Aidan Finnan, Fintan Finnan, Ken Conroy, Barry O Mara & Simon Moorehead. Subs: Luke Kiernan for Maguire, Cian Tighe for Finian Newman, Gavin Lyons, Eoin McGowan, Eoghan Murray & John Casey.

Footnote: It was great to welcome back Luke Kiernan for this game after his time on placement abroad.
