Clarke’s Bar Junior Football Championship 2021
Saturday evening saw us travel to Milltown to face Ballinagore in the first round of this year’s championship. We settled well from the off and Chris Cole opened our account with a fine point from play after 3 minutes. Shortly afterwards Ballinagore slipped through our defences and scored the opening goal of the match. They followed up closely with a point.
Noel Yourell was injured at this point and was replaced by Finian Newman. Just before the first water break Darragh Lyons clawed back at the Ballinagore lead with a fine point from a free kick.
During the next period of play Bunbrosna saw several their efforts miss the target and it was not until about the 25th minute that Darragh Lyons again added to our score with another fine point from play. This was followed in quick succession with points from Kenny Conroy, Peter Tormey and Barry O Mara.
Niall Spain replaced Chris Cole and Conor Lyons who was injured was replaced by Liam Mitchell. Darragh Lyons opened our scoring in the second half with a point from a free. Again, there followed a long period where scores eluded our every effort.
In the 15th minute Peter Tormey broke through scoring a fine point from play. Kevin Mitchell replaced Kenny Conroy and on resumption of play Barry O Mara followed through with a fine point from play, his second of the evening.
John Kiernan had his goal effort ruled out for a square ball, but Niall Spain crashed through for our first goal of the evening. Mark Donnelly recorded a point five minutes from the end of play. In what was to be our final score of the evening Darragh Lyons crashed home our second goal Final score Bunbrosna 2-10 Ballinagore 1-06

Rounders
Well done to our U13s Rounders Team who played brilliantly in their first Féile on Saturday last in very tough playing conditions against teams from across the country. We are so proud of you all.
Many thanks to the organisers and referees for making the day happen. A special thanks to our coach Marion Lyne who did an excellent job and kept everyone well looked after.
Adult Rounders
The bank holiday Monday saw another fixture between Bunbrosna and Ballinagore, and while Ballinagore were the winners it was a good game with plenty of skilful play on both sides.
For Bunbrosna Elaine King made a great outfield catch. The match finished up under floodlights and we wish Ballinagore the best of luck with the rest of the season.
Next fixture is against Dunderry. Details to follow.
Underage
Well done to our U7, U9 and U11 teams who played matches in very difficult conditions on Saturday morning in Bunbrosna.
Many thanks to Ballycomoyle and Millmore Gaels who travelled despite the conditions and played in well contested and sporting games.
Many thanks to everyone for their efforts, especially our U7s who played in the worst of the rain but were brilliant!
Westmeath Minors
Well done to Maeve and Ciara Molloy who were part of the Westmeath Minor team that defeated Carlow in the Leinster Championship during the week.
Condolence
All at Bunbrosna GAA wish to offer our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of the great Seamus O Faoláin, who sadly passed away this past week.
Seamus was a former Chairman of Westmeath GAA, a position he served with distinction for many years. He always had a kind word to say to whoever he crossed paths with and was a true Gael in every sense of the word.
He served as a teacher in Coláiste Mhuire, Mullingar and again gave tremendous service to the teaching profession. Seamus left a hugely positive impression on all those he encountered. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sé.
Speedy Recovery
All at Bunbrosna would like to wish Eddie Newman a very speedy recovery from his recent injuries.
