Underage

Well done to our U9s and U11s who got their season underway in Clonmellon on Saturday morning.

Our U9s played two games against our hosts St. Paul's and Shandonagh. Our U11s played an extremely well contested and competitive game against St. Paul's that was a joy to watch with end to end football all the way. A great start to the year!

Many thanks to St. Paul's GFC for hosting us.

Inny Shamrocks U15s

On Friday 25 March Inny Shamrocks played their first competitive match with a home game in Bunbrosna vs St Michaels. Spectators were treated to a fast and free-flowing game of football, with both sides competing well in a tough but fair encounter.

Due to a number of regular players being absent through illness, Inny Shamrocks fielded an experimental and very young side. This showed in the early stages as the bigger and stronger St Michaels team made that advantage count, scoring 4 goals in an open first half, but once Inny Shamrocks clicked into action they mounted a brilliant comeback, with a display of real character, determination and skill, and were ultimately edged out on a scoreline of 6-13 to 4-13.

James adapted very well to goalkeeper, providing great security and assisting in particular with his accurate kickouts. Jack Keena took an early knock after a brave interception, and was replaced by Adas Butkas, who marked his debut at U15 with an assured display of defensive work.

Greg Penrose continues to develop as one of the best readers of the game with a commanding display at full back, and Aiden Keane also marked his debut at U15 with a tigerish display at corner back.

Dylan Brown's move to centre back paid dividends as his strength was to the fore in breaking up a number of St Michaels attacks, and he marshalled his defence very well from that position. He was ably assisted by flying and fearless wingback Jack Atkins on one side and cool, composed and tenacious Thomas Kerrigan on the other.

At midfield Tristan Jordan provided a powerhouse display with an impressive work ethic and Jimmy Baird gave a tireless, all-action performance capped with a number of fine scores. Killian Mooney was at the heart of Inny Shamrocks attacking threat, taking some fine scores, setting up teammates, and matched this with a display of real graft around the middle of the pitch also, seizing control of the game on a number of occasions by winning vital kickouts.

Stephen Clancy put in a hugely effective performance, providing an outlet for his defence, firing over a fine score under pressure in the first half and winning a penalty with some brave play in the second. Liam Óg Maxwell was a constant threat and his ability to take on and beat his man saw him take a number of excellent scores, among them vital goals.

Mikey Linehan continues to develop into a very promising player and his good running and excellent positional play marks him as one to watch. Jack Keena showed his resilience and versatility on his re-introduction in the second half with a very intelligent performance at wing forward. Cathal. Keena showed his quality and character by taking on responsibility for scores during a difficult period in the first half. His fine attacking display was allied to some excellent defensive work, with a goalmouth interception and a fine block in the second half two notable highlights.

Leo Penrose provided an excellent outlet as a target man at full forward and was constantly available as an option, and made clever use of his free role at kickouts to increase the pressure on the opposition defence.

This was a wholehearted and extremely pleasing display from this group, and thanks to their management and coaches for helping them to produce such a good performance.

Best wishes to all the players who were unavailable due to injury / illness and we hope to see you back soon!

The U15s were out again on Sunday evening at 5pm in Ballynacargy. Match report in next weeks notes.
