ACFL Division 3

We brought our league campaign to an end on Saturday when we travelled to Killucan to take on the home side on what was a perfect day for football. Short of a number of regulars through injury and work commitments, the lads on duty put in a very tenacious performance, particularly in the first half, but ultimately succumbed to a stronger opponent to lose out on a score line of 4:09 to 1:04.

Team: Tommy Murphy, Eoghan Murray, John Kiernan, Gavin Lyons, Noel Yourell, Aidan Finnan, Matthew Hope, Andy Whitney, Darragh Lyons, Kenny Conroy, Barry O Mara, Cian Tighe, Chris Cole, Brian Maguire & Mark Donnelly. Sub: Daire McLoughlin for Darragh Lyons.

Inny Shamrocks U15s Celebrations

Celebrations erupted at Moynihan Park, Ballynacargy, on Friday evening as a very talented and incredibly hard-working Inny Shamrocks U15 team claimed their first silverware, capturing league honours after a thrilling final against a brave St. Loman’s Whites side.

On a glorious evening for football, the large crowd of spectators were treated to a free-flowing, fast-paced and exciting clash between two teams making their respective clubs proud by playing in a tough, committed and skilful style.

Jack Keena-Britton proved a defiant figure throughout between the goalposts, pulling off spectacular saves in both halves, and providing his defenders with an assured and composed performance even under pressure.

Captain Dylan Brown provided real leadership from full back, assured under the dropping ball and reading the game exceptionally well. He was ably assisted by the combative corner-back pairing of the tenacious Jack Atkins and the assured and unflappable Thomas Kerrigan. Tristan-Boyce Jordan gave an eye-catching performance at wing back, before moving to his familiar role at midfield where he was a platform for much of Inny Shamrock’s good work. Trian Leslie was exceptional at centre-back, matching teak-tough tackling with a real attacking threat, while on the other wing Matthew Molloy tackled superbly and ran tirelessly in pursuit of every ball.

The tenacious and talented midfield pairing of James Rusinger and James Baird allied tough, imposing performances with skill and athleticism, and provided the engine room for Inny Shamrocks’ winning performance.

The half forward line proved a key area for Inny Shamrocks, with the pairing at wing forward of the dynamic and clever Finn Maher and hard-working, high-fielding Cathal Keena proving crucial assets in Inny Shamrock’s win, and the entire half-forward line made full use of their exceptional vision and range of kicking to notch some fine scores and passes, with a special mention of the excellent performance from Killian Mooney who, operating from centre-forward, orchestrated many of Inny Shamrock’s attacks and scores, including a brace of goals for himself.

Greg Penrose proved a handful throughout, with his smart positioning and strength a potent combination St Loman’s struggled to contain. The industrious Stephen Clancy showed nerves of steel to bury an early chance to the back of the net and continued that strong start over the course of the game. Liam Og Maxwell proved a constant menace, with smart movement, fine scores and hard tackling marking him out. Fionn Leslie showed his versatility with a dynamic and clever performance on his introduction, and Darragh McGlynn showcased his potential before being unfortunately forced off through injury. John Lyons again showed his ability and huge potential on his entrance to the fray, his cool head and composure a great asset in the closing stages.

A final is won in 60 minutes but a league is won over a much longer period, and the significant contributions from Aidan Keane, Andrew McClean O’Hara (currently injured and best wishes on a speedy recovery), James Connolly, Leo Penrose, Mikey Lenehan, Ryan Tormey, Motiejus Racinkas, Adas Butkas, and others, has proven crucial to the team’s successes and their attitude and hard work throughout the year has been a huge factor in creating a winning environment and mentality.

A huge well done and massive thank you to coaches Robert Ruisinger, John Mulligan and Ger Leslie. They have made huge sacrifices and put tremendous effort and hard work into preparing this group. Without the sacrifices made by them this success simply would not have been possible.

Special mention to Aidan Lyons for his tireless efforts also.

Hard luck to a talented and brave St Loman’s  team who can be very proud of their display and attitude.

Thanks and well done to referee  Mick Gordon and his officials who did a fantastic job. Our thanks to the County Board and all referees this year, with a special mention to Kevin Jordan and to Pat Collins for his kind words after the match.

Thanks to Ballyncargy GAA for a superbly organised evening, with the pitch in superb condition and which would be the envy of many county grounds. Thanks to all the parents who brought and helped serve tea/coffee and refreshments after the game. Thanks to Irene Penrose who looked after the scoreboard.

Well done and a huge congratulations to this talented and hard-working group of players whose skill, spirit and attitude have done their team, their clubs and themselves proud throughout the league campaign. Well done lads!!
