Inny Shamrocks U17
Our U17s travelled to Ballycomoyle on Monday 4th September to take on St Michaels in the final group stage match. Hopes were high that this hard-working group could take a victory but a physically stronger and well-drilled St Michael’s side prevailed after an excellent game of football played in fantastic conditions.
Referee Barry Kelly is to be commended on allowing a fast and free-flowing game to develop and there were fines scores kicked by both sides, with Killian Mooney showing his class for Inny Shamrocks despite being hampered by injury.
Fionn Leslie continues to perform heroics a sour goalkeeper and his distribution throughout was excellent. He was assisted by the commanding Brian McGowan at full back, who was flanked by the determined and tigerish Jack Atkins and the clever and composed Zach Maguire. At centre-back Trian Leslie again showcased his whole-hearted attitude, with some great fielding, interceptions and notable bursts up the field. Cathal Keena showcased his versatility with an excellent display at wing back before moving to his usual berth at centre-forward, and Gordon Medforth again displayed his developing game with another strong and committed display at wing back. At midfield Tristan Boyce Jordan was a driving force, relentless in his efforts to push his team on, and James Ruisinger gave another strong display of clever positioning, tough tackling and excellent use of the ball.
At centre forward James Baird was a consistent hard-working and creative force, proving a real difficulty for St Michael’s to handle. The industrious Conor Scally put in another good shift at wing-forward, working hard up and down the pitch, and on the other wing Kyle Parker proved a real handful throughout, showcasing his talents, dropping deep for possession, linking play fluidly and pulling off some excellent catches in the middle of the park. Killian Mooney showed his quality with some superbly taken scores and proved a real threat throughout as the focal point of the Inny Shamrocks attack. In the corner Fionn Maguire provided another solid display, picking up a lot of possession on the first half, linking attacks with selfless offloads to his teammates.
Liam Og Maxwell continued the vein of intelligent play on his introduction, with well-timed runs that saw him out in front of the St Michaels defence on numerous occasions. In the other corner William Medforth showcased his progression with intelligent runs and a capacity to win primary possession, as well as kicking a fine score in the second half. Ben Forde worked tirelessly on his introduction, winning plenty of ball and his speed is a real asset to this team.
Inny Shamrocks put together some fine passages of play throughout but the direct game favoured by St Michael’s paid greater dividends, with Inny Shamrocks having to work harder in warm conditions for their scores. Congratulations to St Michael’s on their win. We now advance to a Shield Final against Cill Oige. More details on that game to follow.
A huge thank you to the management team and in particular to Frank Lynam, Ger Leslie and to Paul Keena for their hard work with this team.
Thanks also to Keith Mooney for his very generous sponsorship of fantastic training tops for this panel. Best wishes to Jack McGovern who was absent due to illness. Best wishes for a speedy recovery Jack!
