Adult League
On Sunday last we travelled to Springfield to take on Mullingar Shamrocks in Round 4 of the league and our last competitive game ahead of the Championship starting in two weeks time.
Shamrocks were first out of the blocks with an early point before a fine effort from Andy Whitney following neat play by Chris Cole settled Bun into the game. The next scores were shared for both teams with Aidan Finnan registering a good score following a good team move.
Shamrocks deservedly took hold of the game on the score board with a couple of goals either side of a missed penalty. Points from Barry O Mara, Mark Donnellyand Peter Tormey would see Bun go into the break trailing 2:05 to 0:06.
The second half would see Shamrocks get the perfect start with a goal from a 45 hitting the post and they were quickest to react. Facing an 8 point deficit, Bun needed to show plenty of character to get back into this game and character they showed.
They settled into fine rhythms of play and began to eat into the deficit. Bun’s dominance on the oppositions kick out began to pay dividends and with Barry O Mara and the tireless Noel Yourell pulling the strings, Bun recorded excellent points from Peter Tormey, Darragh Lyons and Yourell.
Bun then were awarded a penalty following excellent work by Chris Cole. Barry O’ Mara applied the finish from the spot, sending the keeper the wrong way. Bun now trailed by a point and were soon level following a free by Tormey.
Darragh Lyons followed with two points before Tormey expertly dispatched to the net for Bun’s second goal. He then added another point to put Bun four clear following a Shamrock’s point. A couple of Shamrock’s points followed to leave two between the sides but Bun managed to hold out to record the win.
This was an excellent team performance by Bun who can now head into the Championship with renewed vigour and optimism. It was a good win for Bun and displayed the strength in depth of the panel needed in the modern game. Well done to all.
