Junior Football Final 2022
We made the journey to Cusack Park on Saturday last to take on Multyfarnham in the Junior Football Final. Despite the lads playing their hearts out, luck was not to be on our side this time and we ended up losing on a five point margin of 1:10 to 1:05.
Multy raced into an early four point lead but Bun got to grips with the game and Barry O Mara had our first point on the board when he kicked a great score from distance after being found in space by Aidan Finnan. Peter Tormey then kicked a free from a mark to leave two between the sides.
Multy kicked two more points from frees to edge four ahead again. A long ball in from Conor Lyons found Barry O Mara in space again and he duly dispatched the ball to the net to give the large Bun support a huge lift. O Mara followed this up with a great run before he was fouled. Darragh Lyons applied the finish to leave one point between the sides.
A fortuitous goal for Multy soon after followed by a point left four points in it at half time. The second half was a low scoring affair. Conor Lyons kicked the opening point of the half with a fine curling effort after a great run by Noel Yourell. There were several turnovers from both sides throughout the second half.
Multy stretched six points clear with a couple of points on the counter attack to kill the game off with ten minutes to go. To their great credit, the Bun players tried to the end but just couldn’t get the scores needed. Ronan Scally, returning from a serious shoulder injury, clipped over a point deep in injury time to leave five points in it at the end.
Whilst very disappointed with the final outcome, the Bun team can certainly hold their heads high. They have given their supporters some great days out again this year throughout the championship. They will take a well earned break now before putting their shoulder to the wheel again for next year. The young players who made their adult debuts this year have performed excellently and will only improve from their experiences this year.
The experienced players, as they have always been, have once again put in a hugely committed effort to training this year and have really helped the younger players settle into the demands of adult football. They continue to be exemplary ambassadors of our club and their hunger for success shows no signs of abating.
