ACFL Division 3 vs Multyfarnham
We hosted neighbours Multyfarnham on Sunday last in the third round of the league. Played in sunny conditions and before a sizable crowd, both teams played out a sporting and physical game which ended in a draw. This was probably the fairest result but both teams will feel like they could have taken the two league points on offer.
Bun raced into an early lead with quality points from play from Finian Newman and Andrew Whitney. Multy responded with a point from a free before Barry O Mara raised the white flag with a neat point.
The crucial score of the game came then when Matthew Hope made a great burst forward from half back before he linked up with Noel Yourell and John Kiernan, who produced a deft pass to O Mara who applied the finish to the net with a low shot. Multy gradually came into the game and kicked four points on the bounce before half time to leave the score 1:04 to 0:05 at the break.
Multy started the second half brightly and had the first three points of the half to go in front for the first time in the game. Ken Conroy responded with a point from a free to level things up before Multy kicked ahead again, this time with a fine move from play.
After a number of chances spurned by both teams, O Mara levelled again from play with the game entering the final minutes. Multy raced down the field to kick in front as the game entered injury time but Bun were not to be denied something from the game. Finian Newman forced an excellent turn over high up the field before he found Aidan Finnan who took a pass off him at speed to curl over an exquisite point with his left foot from 30 yards.
While this is a game that we could have won, we have to be happy to take at least a point. The resilient nature of the team to refuse to accept defeat bodes well as their season progresses. After three games in successive weeks, we see a break next weekend before we resume league action in two weeks time.
Team: Alan Maguire, Conor Newman, Joe Tormey, Eoghan Murray, Matthew Hope, Aidan Finnan, Dave Newman, John Kiernan, Andrew Whitney, Finian Newman, Noel Yourell, Luke Kiernan, Ken Conroy, Brian Maguire & Barry O Mara. Subs: Fintan Finnan for Brian Maguire, Ronan Scally for Dave Newman, Enda Newman for Ken Conroy, Tommy Murphy, Cian Tighe, Eoin McGowan, Ger Brennan
ACFL Division 6 vs Delvin
We hosted Delvin on Saturday last in the opening round of the Division 6 league. With a game in Division 3 the following day, this was an opportunity for players to get some valuable game time and it was also great to see some familiar faces return to don the Bun jersey once more. Chief among these was Ultan Molloy, playing his first game for Bun since his last one 19 years ago! Welcome back Ultan! He was ably assisted also by Darren Fulham and John Casey who also made appearances on the day. All three of these players offered valuable experience to our younger players.
At the other end of the scale was Caomhan MacGabhann making his adult debut for Bun. Well done Caomhan! Bun put in a valiant effort throughout the game and despite defeat they can be very happy with the battling performance that was put in by all the team.
Team: John Casey, Eoghan Murray, Gavin Lyons, Eoin McGowan, Luke Kiernan, Conor Newman, Enda Newman, Fintan Finnan, Chris Cole, Daire McLaughlin, Cian Tighe, Paul Connaughton, Brian Maguire & Tommy Murphy. Subs: Alan Maguire, Caomhan MacGabhann, Darren Fulham and Ultan Molloy.
